President Corner

As Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, I am very excited with the developments around the game in the country. A lot of good things are happening around our game. We are happy that the fazambia.com website provides an even bigger platform to make known some of these developments. It also provides a good platform for our stakeholders to provide as with the kind of feedback that will take our game further. Our league is among the best on the continent with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ranking it seventh. This is a benchmark we have to continue improving. The competitiveness of our league is demonstrated in the number of foreign players that have joined our league. We are mindful of the pitfalls of the flooding of foreign players and are taking steps to strike a balance. The transitional league has been an exciting phase for our country. We have seen some teams thrive under the shortened season while others have tumbled. Throughout out this period, we have kept our focus on the restructured league that kicks-off in August with an 18-team Super League. We will also have a sponsored National Division One League that marks a milestone in the Zambian game.

Our national teams also have key assignments in the second half of the year. Our under-23 still have their eyes on Olympic qualification with their next assignment in September. It is still a long way to Tokyo but we are doing everything possible to ensure that we get there.

We have our senior team focused on the 2020 Cameroon CHAN tournament and also the kickoff of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Our junior teams still have the Cosafa tournaments on the cards and we hope that they continue to shine churn out talent.

The women national teams have equally a number of engagements.

We remain very committed with talent identification as seen by various programs lined up by the Technical Directorate.

The selection for the under-17 national team for both men and women is underway with all the 10 provinces involved in the process. Provincial coaches and administrators have been engaged at all levels of the selection to ensure that all the best possible talents are captured.

We implore our stakeholders to utilize this platform in accessing and disseminating information. After all in this era on ICTs we cannot afford to lag behind. We remain committed to run a transparent institution.
